Killer Book Club (2023) Movie Explanation

At the beginning of the film, we are introduced to a dirty room with pages from books scattered everywhere. A girl named Alisha is seen spraying petrol all over the room with the intention of burning the books and pages. There is a woman in front of Alisha, who is pleading with her to stop. However, Alisha sprinkles petrol on the woman and sets a book on fire, killing the woman. The room is engulfed in flames, including a burning computer whose screen reads: "She must be dying."

The story then moves forward six years and focuses on the main character, Angela. Angela and her friends are aspiring writers who attend college together. They regularly attend book club meetings where they discuss the books and novels they have written, as well as share and discuss new stories they read. During a meeting, an argument breaks out between Angela's friend and a girl named Sebas, causing Angela's friend to leave in despair. Angela follows her friend to talk things out, but her friend expresses her dislike for Sebas and tells Angela to end their friendship. Angela refuses, saying that both her friend and Sebas are equally important to her.

Later that night, Angela confides in Sebas about her disappointment in not having written a book in six years. She feels as if she is no longer a writer. Sebas reassures her and offers his full support and assistance in writing the book. Angela appreciates his encouragement and they separate. Realizing her mistake, Angela apologizes to her friend for her behavior. When she returns home, she sets about writing an email to her professor, asking for help in finding a new story to write a book about. However, she hesitates and remembers the book "Killer Clown" mentioned by Sebas, which is about a normal man turned clown who goes on a killing spree when a certain disease takes control of him.

In class, the professor discusses the flaws in horror stories and how writers often make huge mistakes by taking someone else's story and turning it into a new story. He stresses the importance of creating original stories. Angela, who was contemplating taking on someone else's story, begins to think about her words. After class, the professor asked Angela to come into his office for a talk. When she arrives, the Professor mentions receiving an email she sent, leaving Angela confused as she does not remember sending any mail. The Professor then reveals that he is struggling with personal problems, including an impending divorce. Angela opens up about her struggles and asks for his help to complete her story. The professor locks the door and begins behaving strangely, to which Angela reacts violently and demands him to open the door. He complies but threatens her not to reveal what happened.

Upset and angry, Angela tells her friends about the incident but decides not to report the professor. His friends are enraged and vow to take revenge on the professor by ensuring that he does not repeat his actions again. They all wear clown masks and confront the Professor, who becomes horrified and tries to run away. In the panic, he slips, falls on a pointed pole and dies. Angela's friends initially suspect her of murdering the professor, but she reveals that someone downstairs attacked her before she arrived. They agree to keep the incident a secret but Angela suggests involving the police. However, his friends convince him that this may lead to more trouble and they decide to burn their clown masks and bury the secret.

Life seems to be returning to normal for Angela and her friends, although Angela feels guilty for the professor's death. He receives the first chapter of the novel titled "The Death of the Professor", which startles him. They suspect each other as the sender as only they know the truth about the professor's death. Despite their fears, they continue to receive subsequent chapters, including a chapter where the crazed clown kills one of his friends. Angela and Sebas go to the location mentioned in the chapter but find no sign of their friends, only a message from the clown that reads "Continue."

Another friend approaches them and claims to know who the Joker is. They gather at the college and try to identify the person who enjoys scary things and could be the author of their story. They plan to search the internet and the college website to find the culprit.

After discovering that they are the only people who like scary things, he suspects that the Jester may be one of them. He decided to go to the library as per his plan. When Angela was alone, she received a message from the Joker, which read, "I'm watching you." When Angela saw the Joker standing there and pointing at her, she got scared and started running. She accidentally bumps into her friend, who is shocked to see the Joker. They started doubting him. Later that night, they all go to a club that Angela's best friend owns. When Sebas' friend came out of the club, Joker came and started attacking him. Despite the friend's fearlessness, the Joker managed to kill him. The Jester then sends the third chapter to Angela, confessing to the murder of Sebas' friend. This led the group to start blaming each other.

Sebas learns that the Joker was sending them messages using an ID he found on the Internet, which leads him to a girl named Alisha. Alisha had an affair with the clown for many years and was responsible for burning down the book room. Angela remembered that the novel she had written was based on Alisha's story. Alisha's mother was fond of stories and when she refused to tell them, Alisha used to beat her. One day Alisha burnt her mother and later committed suicide. Angela's book becomes famous, which angers Alisha. Alisha approaches Angela, threatening revenge. Sebas realized that Alisha was the Joker, but Alisha claimed she was dead and blamed herself for everything.

Meanwhile, Joker continues to pursue Angela's friend. The friend managed to hide and thought the Joker had fainted, but it was a trick. The Joker attacks the friend, leaving him unconscious. The Joker spares her life, but sends Angela a message with a video of her friend announcing a novel publishing event where the Joker will come in disguise. They all attend the ceremony, and Angela receives another message from the Joker, indicating that he was keeping an eye on them.

They decide to search for the Joker separately, causing chaos and attracting security. One of his friends was chased by security and went into hiding, only to be found and killed by the Joker. When they found their friend's body in the water, they also found another friend with his throat slit. Suspicion fell on the friend who had the Joker's hammer, but he denied killing anyone.

Angela faints and later wakes up to a video showing Sebas being tied up by the Joker. Angela ran to save Sebas but found her friend injured and dying. Her friend reveals that Sebas was the Joker, inspired by his anger towards Angela. Sebas attacks Angela's best friend and then reveals himself as the Joker, claiming that he had planned everything carefully for his story. Angela manages to stab Sebas and escape.

Another friend of Angela's appeared in a clown costume, revealing herself to be Alisha, who had not died but had survived. Alisha confesses to having written the entire story with Sebas and killing Angela's friends in order to frame her and steal her story. Alisha and Sebas plan to publish the story as a book and make a film to make money. Angela's injured best friend managed to distract them and Sebas fell onto a spiked pole and died instantly.

In the end, Angela discovered that her best friend was still alive and with her help she defeated Alisha. At last the ordeal ended.
