"The Last Voyage of the Demeter" appears to be a film that will primarily appeal to fans of vampire lore and classic horror. Its success will depend on the execution of the plot, the performances of the cast, and the ability to create a mysterious and atmospheric experience. If you enjoy vampire stories with elements of suspense and mystery, this film may be worth a watch.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023) Explanation

Theatrical film begins on August 6, 1897. We are shown an empty ship called Timitra. There was no one in it. When the ship reaches the shore, the police come to investigate. They also did not find anything there. Everyone was surprised as to how the empty ship came to another city. While investigating, the police find a diary which belonged to the captain of this ship. It was written in it that if that thing falls on humans, it will destroy everyone like this ship. After reading this, they become nervous when they see the condition of the ship.

After this we are shown the story of three weeks ago. Now from here we will know what happened to that ship. We see a ship named Timitra, whose captain was loading some cargo onto the ship. Since there was a lot of stuff, he needed some more people. Then he meets a man named Clemens, who was a doctor by profession. But to load the goods on the ship, they did not need a doctor, but some laborers. Clemens told him that he had to go to London for work. If possible, would you take me on your ship? But the captain refused him.

At that time some people had kept their luggage on the ship, but they did not want to go on that ship with the Captain. Some returned the money to the captain saying that it was night and they could not go on the journey. Anyway, when others were putting luggage on the ship, a crate was about to fall on the child, which Clemens saves. Actually, that child was the grandson of the Captain. Seeing this the Captain thanked Clemens and was now ready to take him with him.

Actually, that crate was about to fall because of a man's fear, because he had seen some marks on that crate which were of a python, seeing which he was very scared. So now he refuses to go with the Captain and shouts at the Captain a lot. Anyway, all the stuff was kept there. Some begin their journey on the ship with the captain, including Clemens. When people see him going on that ship, they say out of fear, May God protect us.

The captain's grandson was showing Clemens his entire ship and the captain began writing his diary, which he often wrote during his voyage. He writes his first blog that our journey has started, it will take us three weeks to finish this journey. Today is the first day of our journey. Then a man from the team, named Wojcik, comes to him, who learns that the captain is now going to London and will end his journey forever. And he will go to the city and take care of his grandson. That means the captain is going to retire after this voyage and then he will hand over the running of this ship to Wojcik. Wojcik was happy to hear this, but also a little sad.

The next day the Captain was informing all the employees about their salaries. But Clemens says, no, I don't want any salary. That's why during this time he hears strange sounds. When he went to investigate he did not find anyone there. Suddenly there was a storm in the sea. Their ship was hit by a wave. While they were taking the things, a big box falls, in which they found a lot of soil. But inside that soil they also find a girl, to which Wojcik says that I think someone has deliberately sent this girl among us. She could be a danger to us. We should kill him. But the captain does not believe him and asks Clemens to treat him because he was a doctor.

When he investigated, it was found that the girl was very ill and was in great need of blood. Clemens had once given her his blood, but the girl was in great need of blood. Looking at him it seemed as if someone had sucked all the blood from his body. That same night they see the crate box on which the man was scared after seeing the python. Then a strange looking monster comes out of that box. On the other hand, Clemence asks the Captain's grandson to stay with the girl he was treating. And he himself comes outside, where he finds another companion of Wojcik. He believed that it was wrong for the girl to be on the ship. Then when he was looking through binoculars, his eyes fell on the same monster, of which he could see a faint glimpse. Seeing this he becomes very scared and tells everything to Clemens. But he doesn't believe anything he says and says you must be delusional. There is nothing there.

When the captain's grandson's dog goes inside the basement of the ship, it is attacked by something. After some time, a laborer came there to feed the animals. Then he finds all the animals dead. Everyone got scared after seeing this. Captain says, look, whoever did this, let him come before you. Because the Captain was suspicious of his own workers. But his workers blame Clemens for all this and blame the unconscious girl. Captain says no, he can't do anything like that. When the Captain looked at the animals closely, he found out that they had died due to the spread of this infection. So he now orders all the dead animals to be thrown into the water.

After this, his journey gradually passed for two weeks. But he still had two more weeks to reach his destination. But till now that unconscious girl was not well. He also says that I feel that this girl is possessed by some dark power. And I've seen that thing and Clemens has seen it too. But he is not ready to accept. Then the captain's grandson says that I have heard this girl talking unconsciously. She was telling her name as Anna. And she keeps saying the same words again and again. Anna, Anna. After hearing this, everyone wonders what this could mean.

When Clemens was roaming the ship at night, the staff told him that someone who had seen the dead animals said that there is no longer a sound of rats on the ship. Clemens says that perhaps his death also occurred due to infection. The employee says no, this is not possible. How can all the rats die together? Surely there is something that killed all the animals first and then the rats. There is something dangerous that is not good for all of us. Then a man from his team feels some noises in the night. When he went to investigate, there was the same monster which the watchman's companion had seen earlier. He suddenly attacks the man. He sucked all his blood. And then he goes to the shore and eats her body. Actually, it was a Dracula monster that sucked human blood and ate them.

After some time, Clemens also arrives there, who sees the broken part of the ship. But he doesn't understand anything. When morning came, everyone gathered there because the captain was worried. First the animals died and now a man from his team is missing. At the same place he also finds a fallen knife. The employee now became suspicious of Clemens. He says this is new for us. Who knows, he is the one doing all this. But Clemens told him to believe in himself that it was nothing like that, he could not harm anyone. He tells her that I observed those animals carefully. So I felt as if someone had killed him.

Then the same unconscious girl Anna gets down. She got scared after hearing all this. She tells Clemens that he has come here too. Please...

Get off this plane, or he'll kill us all. Clemens takes care of him. It seems that Anna has regained consciousness after a long time, but now she has started having strange thoughts. She tells him that he is a Dracula monster who lived in a castle in the mountains. He revealed that he came every night and drank her blood little by little and showed her his marks as proof. Anna warns that he has also come on this ship and will kill everyone.

One night, when it is raining heavily, the ship's mate hears strange noises and goes to investigate. He encounters Dracula, who attacks and kills him. The ship begins to shake, waking up the others on board. They find the companion injured but still alive, as Dracula only drank his blood. The Captain records all these events in his diary, recording his horrifying experiences. The crew discovers that Dracula appears at night, causing the captain to assign two mates with guns to guard him while the rest search the ship with Wozzeck.

Worried that the injured companion might turn into a vampire, they tied him up. Meanwhile, the captain's grandson, who was in the ship's lobby, is attacked by Wozzeck's companion, who has transformed into Dracula. The grandson locks himself in a cabin and asks for help. When they finally open the door, they find the transformed companion inside. Before they can react, Dracula attacks and bites the Captain's grandson. Anna shoots Dracula, but it is too late to save the grandson, who falls unconscious.

Clemens treats the grandson, providing him with his blood. They tie up the companion-turned-Dracula out of fear that he might bite the others. At dawn, the vampire Dracula is burned by sunlight, and Wozzeck shoots him. The party discusses their fears and wonder if they are being punished for their sins. Clemens assures them that there is no such punishment, but he is concerned about the possibility of the captain's grandson turning into a vampire.

Clemens and Anna search the crate and find the crate where Dracula was kept, but he is not inside. Dracula kills another accomplice who tries to escape on a small boat. The Captain learns that his grandson has died, which saddens him greatly. They throw the grandson's body into the water, but to their horror he transforms into Dracula. They immediately disposed of him, and the captain, traumatized by the death of his grandson, retired to rest.

Clemens and the rest of the companions plan to trap Dracula, as catching him will not be easy. They intend to sink him into the water along with the ship. However, when Clemens informs the captain, he refuses, claiming that Dracula has promised to return his grandson. Anna disagrees, pointing out that she has been trapped by Dracula before. The captain realizes the truth and decides to take matters into his own hands.

At night, the captain sets a trap for Dracula, but the vampire is not easily caught. Dracula attacks one of his comrades and then goes after Wozzeck, seriously injuring him. The captain quickly digs into the ship, but Dracula kills him as well. As he dies, the Captain instructs Clemens to share his story with the world through his diary.

Enraged, Clemens confronts Dracula, declaring that he is not a god who can kill people at will. Dracula attacks her, but Anna shoots him. However, Dracula turns his attention to Anna, about to kill her. Clemens intervenes and is captured by Dracula. In a final act of bravery, Anna cuts a rope, leading to a wooden stake to bury Dracula. Anna and Clemens jump into the water and return to the opening scene of the story where the Demeter ship reaches an empty shore.

Everyone is surprised to see the ship, not realizing that Dracula has escaped and Clemens and Anna have ended up somewhere else. Anna turns into a vampire after being bitten by Dracula but is quickly burned by the first rays of the sun. Clemens is then shown to London, where the story of the Demeter ship and its crew's ordeal becomes widely known through the captain's diary. No one knows what happened to Dracula or Clemens. While Clemens searches for Dracula, the vampire hides among the humans, keeping an eye on him.

The story ends with suspense as to whether Clemens will be able to find Dracula and take revenge.
